Jacob Bretz, "the father of this family in our County, was born in Pennsylvania, November 1st, 1766. He was married to Maria Strickler who was born September 4th, 1766, and died July 19th, 1853. In 1806 they with their family moved to Canada and settled in Waterloo County, a little below Preston, on the farm now occupied by John Clemens. Their family consisted of four children..."
